Hello, You Naughties!
(Every time I say this term of endearment to my students or writing friends, half of them look at me like, “Whaaa? I’m not naughty. You’re naughty!” FYI, a little bit of naughty never hurts you as a writer.)
Yahoo! for WIFYR 2025– this June (16-20), and all our monthly fun things that we have planned. This year is a perfect time to learn to write better, learn to write stronger, and publish!
I’m excited about all that’s going on. Classes filled so quickly for our June conference that we decided to add two Morning Workshop teachers. Brodi Ashton and Heidi Gordon join Carolyn Fisher, Kaela Rivera, Martine Leavitt, Michael Carr, Jennifer Nielsen, and me. Our keynote is Vivian Vande Velde (Tales of Brothers Grimm and Sisters Weird, Heir Apparent, Companion of the Night). Our plenary teachers include publisher Kiri Jorgensen, Jessica Day George, and poet laureate Lance Larsen.
This year we’ll have five HOW classes. These intimate sessions will be for limited numbers of attendees and are on a first-come-first-serve basis. (NOTE: When you sign up for a HOW class, you MUST stay the full two-hour session.) As well, we’ll be taught by local authors, illustrators, editors, and agents.
Last June, there was tremendous success with two people having books acquired by Bushel & Peck publisher David Miles, at least two people who found success with agents who attended the conference, and another book sale by an agent who acquired someone at WIFYR in a previous year.
In case you don’t know, there are monthly activities during 2025 other than our week-long event. We started with our January Kick Off with Candace Fleming and Eric Rohmann and have several events planned. These include Picture Book Month for February, a new and exciting March Ahead at the end of March, more $10 events, our September Online Intensive, WIFYR NE plus more. And, of course, we’ll end the year with dinner and reading at a local restaurant.
Friends, I invite you to our monthly events and to come and find out what WIFYR is all about. What makes this writing conference different from others? Why is it mentioned all over the country? How is it a community of writers who stay friends for decades? If you have been to WIFYR, we welcome you back! We have a seat with your name on it. If you haven’t, we’re excited to meet you and get to know you.
Join us! WIFYR 2025 promises to be amazing!
With much love and great hope for us all as writers,
Carol
